LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAMME
Haslemere Swimming Club runs a successful Learn to Swim program on Saturday
evenings at the Herons from 5pm - 7pm. This is run by the Saturday Night
co-ordinator along with a team of dedicated volunteer swimming teachers (all
qualified at ASA Level 1 or Level 2 Teachers certificate).
Lessons start with the Puddleducks for children under the age of 5. The aim
is to get them confident and skillfull enough to move up to level one. It will
concentrate on basic water skills with a mixture of games and simple swimming
drills.
For children age 5 a range of ability groups are available from non-swimmers to
pre-competitive. We run a structured teaching programme around the ASA’s
National Plan for Teaching Swimming. Children are assessed on their ability at
the end of each term for progression on to the next level. We reward achievement
through the ASA awards scheme at only £2.00 per award (for a certificate and a
cloth badge).
The Learn to Swim programme is separate from the competitive swimming club,
but provides a great opportunity to develop swimming skills. We hold trials at
the end of every term for the opportunity for new swimmers to join our Learn
to Swim programme.
In addition, we have a number of swimmers this term who have passed their
ASA level 12 and are keen to continue swimming. The Barracudas will follow a more
training based hour with emphasis on stamina and developing the individual strokes
even further.
