What a great day for Haslemere on day one of the Surrey County Championships 2018.
After a great first 50m Jamie Bell swam well throughout and beat his old PB by 15 seconds in the 400m Free swimming a long course time of 5:25.45. Luke Van Oudtshoorn also had a great swim against strong competition with a PB of 4:44.73 and creditable 5th place in his age group.
With a strong swim in the 200m IM, Felix Brockdorff secured a great PB of 2:51.98 and will no doubt make his mark in future events this Championship. With a surprise qualification in the 200m Backstroke Gracie Nash attacked her heat from the beginning and will hopefully build on her early start at this years championships in the following weeks.
We had an extremely positive last session with 6 top eight finishes and 2 medals. Abbi Stemp and Ella Grosse both made the 100m Breaststroke final with a 6th and 8th place respectively. In the girls 200m Butterfly we had three brave swimmers. Ella Jackson put in a gutsy swim in the 12yr old age group whilst Alex Thurston took 4th place in the 16yr age group with a long course PB. Abbi Stemp battled it out in a strong age group to win a silver medal, just beaten on the touch by .04s after a great race.
In the boys 100m Free Sam Crew and Andrej Donovski both made the final with strong swims in the heats. Sam then went on to win Gold by 1.20s with an amazing time of 55.74s. Andrej placed a very determined 4th with a long course PB of 57.85s.
Congratulations to all the HSC swimmers who represented us today and have paved the way for plenty more, fast, determined and gutsy swims in the coming weeks.
